55 Bus Storytelling Campaign
The 55 Bus Route Coalition spent the first part of 2025 collecting stories about why the 55 bus is such essential transit for our community. More than 30 people shared their stories and highlighted issues such as lack of access to other transit options, isolation when the 55 bus isn’t available, and the need for transit connectivity to the essential services found near Copley Square. Join us in our fight for an accessible, reliable 55 bus!
The 55 bus is critical transportation for people who live, work, and study in the Fenway, particularly seniors and people with accessibility needs. It currently runs from 10am-4pm along a route that crosses from the West Fens to the East Fens before arriving in Copley Square – see the route here if you’re interested in becoming a 55 bus rider! However, the limited bus hours currently in place don’t meet our community’s needs, and there have been significant service cuts from the pre-pandemic route that extended to Park Street and ran from 6am to 11pm.
The 55 Bus Route Coalition has advocated for reliable and resilient transportation on the 55 bus route since 2021 when the line was shut down, and it brings together residents, community organizations, and our elected officials to fight for the bus service we need. Today, community activism has won many changes, including a 6am-7pm schedule extension planned to happen as part of ongoing MBTA bus network updates. However, the current schedule and limited route are far from the bus we need, and we continue to fight for a better neighborhood bus and the implementation of a longer schedule.
